With the formation of Thomas Services, Inc. in 1993, Maurice Thomas began his pursuits to fulfill his dream of being an entrepreneur. Since then, he has developed business relationships that resulted in contracts with the Georgia Lottery Corporation, the District of Columbia and, through the formation of another business; he also worked with the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation.
Over the years, Thomas Services has benefitted greatly from partnering with larger gaming companies and working as a subcontractor to various state lotteries. In that same vein, the Company is very open to forging similar alliances with local small businesses in the communities it serves.
In 1993, Maurice Thomas formed Thomas Services, Inc. and pursued his dream to become an entrepreneur. Since then, Mr. Thomas has managed and operated the company and worked with the Georgia Lottery Corporation and the District of Columbia Lottery. Through the formation of Tennessee Vending Services, he also earned the opportunity to work with the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation. With over 16 years of experience in the state lottery business, he has demonstrated core competencies in operations management, accounting, financial analysis, strategic planning and new business development.
Mr. Thomas began his professional career in 1980 after graduating with honors from Jackson State University with a B.S. degree in Accounting. From 1980-1984, he was a certified public accountant and worked with Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Company and, later, with Price Waterhouse & Company. In 1986, Mr. Thomas graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and was awarded his MBA degree in Finance. After graduating from business school, he moved to New York and began a long, successful career in the financial services industry.
During his first 18-years after graduate school, he was an investment banker and helped to raise billions of dollars in capital for corporations, cities, counties, states and other nonprofit organizations throughout the country. During his last five years in the business, he worked in the investment management sector of industry. Over the course of his financial services career, he worked at large financial institutions such as PaineWebber Inc. and Bank of America and SunTrust Banks as well as several small, boutique firms.
